In the context of joining VC Lab, I support the #MensariusOath for ethical investing, a code of conduct for venture capitalists and other finance professionals designed to foster positive outcomes for humanity (i.e., the Hippocratic Oath for #VentureCapital).

I've long argued they should just release all our SSNs, thereby forcing those relying on them to use stronger authentication. The problem was that it wasn't "only a few people's identity", rather virtually everyone but spanning many breaches. This allowed them to maintain the illusion of security when there was none, but now the emperor has truly been shown to have no clothes.Looking forward to seeing them do absolutely nothing about this, at least so long as the cost is largely an externality borne by the victims of identity theft.

Just finished the exams to earn the "Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert" and pre-requisite "Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator" certifications from Microsoft, having started out as a Windows NT (and Mac and Unix/Linux) sysadmin longer ago than I'd care to admit. I also picked up "Microsoft Certified Azure AI Engineer" and "Microsoft Certified Azure Fundamentals" for good measure, extending my cloud wrangling credentials from AWS and Google. With most individuals and enterprises storing data in Microsoft cloud services like Microsoft 365, adding support for the integration of our Personal Artificial Intelligence Operating System (pAI-OS) (https://paios.org) with Microsoft Azure will enable the seamless flow of user data into the vector stores we use to personalise answers from large language models like ChatGPT using a Retrieve->Augment->Generate (RAG) process.#MicrosoftAzure #Certification #Learning #ArtificialIntelligence

The relevance of the Quantum Computing (CS7400) class I start next week as part of my MS CS in AI/ML at Georgia Institute of Technology — driven by the increasing importance of quantum physics in advanced AI applications including AGI — just ticked up a notch:#ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #GeorgiaTech

A quarter century on and still certifiable (according to Microsoft).Microsoft Azure rather than Windows NT 4.0 this time though.

I absolutely agree Open Source AI is the path forward, and while Meta's Mark Zuckerberg raises pertinent points on geopolitics and business opportunities, I'm more about making it personal with personal AI, which we've been calling "pAI" at non-profit Kwaai and in the open source Personal Artificial Intelligence Operating System (pAI-OS).Like with the widespread adoption of computers starting half a century ago, #ArtificialIntelligence can empower individualsin their daily tasks, encourage lifelong learning, and enhance personal growth. It can also replace them, leaving many without work or a sense of purpose. Like computers, it will likely do both depending on who you are, but we can all agree we're better off for them.Open source became popular around that time as a way to protect freedoms and prevent vendor lock-in, and today most Internet infrastructure runs on open source products like #Linux (pAI-OS aims to be "The Linux of Artificial Intelligence"). The evolutionary shift from products to services that we called "Cloud Computing" meant users weren't running software locally any more, rather on millions of servers running Linux — in some ways cloud is "just someone else's computer".With the advent of personal AI this paradigm is problematic, because the power of the AI is proportional to the amount of data it has available. Rather than use the right tool for the job, people will be forced to "pick a pocket" and store their data in proximity to their personal AI of choice, be it Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, or Google Assistant. With #OpenSource AI and models like Llama 3.1 powering projects like pAI-OS, consumers will retain the choice to store and exploit their most valuable asset where they want, once again protecting important freedoms. That's why I'm devoting so much time to its success, as I did 15 years ago with cloud, while studying for an MSc in AI at Georgia Institute of Technology. AI is the future, but I prefer a future where users are in control of their data and destiny, not one where we become digital serfs to technocratic overlords.

With the increasing prevalence of supply chain #security vulnerabilities and attacks, and the backdrop of today's CrowdStrike & Microsoft outages, I'm raising the bar for Kwaai's Personal Artificial Intelligence Operating System (pAI-OS) (https://paios.org) by PGP/GPG signing all code commits back to the initial commit and requiring that future contributions (pushes and pull requests) be digitally signed by a key that has itself been signed by a maintainer (currently myself and fellow long-term open source contributor Karsten Wade). This "web of trust" approach was inspired by my volunteer work over the years as a Debian Developer and as organisation assurance officer for community certification authority CAcert Inc., as well as a similar process used by secure operating system Qubes, and Apple's recent introduction of Private Cloud Compute (where your Apple devices can offload #ArtificialIntelligence workloads to their servers which are running cryptographically signed and verifiable operating system builds). Here's more on how and why this was done:

Earlier this year I started on my third degree, a Master of Science in Computer Science at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, building on my bachelors from UNSW in Sydney by specialising in Machine Learning. I got 100% for Information Security and have 100% to date in AI Ethics, but my run of luck(?) is about to come to an end...You see the longer you're in the #OMSCS program, the earlier your slot to enrol, and the better chance you have to get into the classes you want (with the exception of the final boss, Graduate Algorithms, which is virtually impossible to get into until you need it to graduate). I missed the jump on registration this week - which is like trying to secure Burning Man tickets - so unless I get lucky on "Free For All Friday" (unlikely) then I won't be doing either GPU Hardware & Software or Natural Language Processing (NLP) as planned, and will be stuck with Machine Learning (ML) or ML for Trading (ML4T)... unless I'm feeling particularly masoch*stic and decide to do Deep Learning (DL), Reinforcement Learning (RL), or Artificial Intelligence (AI).Anyway the point is that if any of this sounds interesting to you then you've got until August 15 to collect all the information for your application, so you might want to start now... I've already signed up one sucker (not naming names)!https://omscs.gatech.edu/https://omscs.rockshttps://omshub.org

Passed my first Microsoft exam in almost 20 years and am now a Microsoft Certified Azure AI Engineer Associate. Not particularly useful but I did learn a lot which I'll be able to use to integrate Azure with the Personal Artificial Intelligence Operating System (pAI-OS) we're building at Kwaai.
