Diagnosis and treatments

Primary care offers multiple options for diagnosing your condition and caring for your healthcare needs.

Diagnosis and treatment options include:

  • Check Symptoms tool
Check Symptoms is a free online symptom evaluation tool available 24/7/365. It can give you peace of mind when symptoms start to worry you. Located within Mayo Clinic's patient portal, it allows you to answer targeted questions to evaluate your symptoms and receive a care recommendation. Learn how to use the Check Symptoms tool.
  • Chronic health management
If you have a chronic condition, your primary care provider helps manage it — checking in with you, managing prescriptions, ordering tests — to help improve your quality of life.
  • Vaccination management
Vaccination is one of the best ways to maintain good health and protect against infectious diseases. Vaccinations offer protection against serious diseases by stimulating the immune system to create antibodies against specific bacteria or viruses. Get vaccine guidance from Mayo Clinic. Refer to the adult or child and adolescent schedules for recommended vaccines based on age. Review the history of infectious disease outbreaks and vaccines timeline for information about significant disease outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics, and the impact of vaccines and research. Use your patient portal account to self-schedule a COVID-19 or influenza vaccination or call your local clinic.
  • Wellness management
Meeting with your primary care provider for annual checkups and routine medical appointments is important. Your primary care provider will order preventive screenings and help you navigate your healthcare journey.
